Happy Thanksgiving!!
As Thanksgiving and the holiday’s approach, I spend time every year considering traditions — where they came from, why they’re important and whether they are still relevant and meaningful enough to keep them. It is also important to create new traditions, and one tradition I am endlessly thankful for, is one that I recently adopted a few years ago.
I began hosting Thanksgiving dinner for my family, and in doing so, I decided there was a new tradition I wanted to create. Every Thanksgiving, I set out a “Gratitude Jar” and everyone writes on a card what they are most thankful for, beyond the usual “I’m grateful for my health and my family,” and then they drop their card in the jar. We then pick from the jar, and read aloud what someone else is grateful for, and we allow it to be a mystery of who said what.
It is one of my favorite traditions, because it not only fills my cup with love and gratitude, but everyone who attends leaves with a much fuller cup. It’s gratitude amplified and it is an awesome experience enjoyed by all. What are your favorite Thanksgiving traditions?
Whether you celebrate Thanksgiving or not, having an attitude of gratitude is your greatest asset. Gratitude is the anecdote for what ails you — it truly is. As you go about your day today, keep top of mind what you are most grateful for — people, places, resources, etc. — anything and everything! I want you to know that not only on Thanksgiving, but every single day, I am SO grateful for YOU! Thank you for allowing me into your inbox, for taking the time to read and to connect with me. I am honored and so incredibly thankful.
Be well. Love Mel.
